The transition from April to May is a time of year when various species of whales are migrating in and out of SoCal's waters. You can spot humpbacks, fin whales, blue whales, gray whales and dolphins, and now for $29, two people can search for these marine giants on a 2.5-hour excursion. This Local Deal with Ocean Explorer Cruises also includes two drinks for a total value of $70. The cruise embarks from Newport Bay and ventures 15 miles into the Pacific. While on board or at Mermaid Coffee Bar, you can order two coffees, soft drinks, domestic beers or glasses of wine (up to $4 each). The boat can hold more than 100 people and is fully equipped with bathrooms, indoor and outdoor seating, and a concession area. Until April 30, boats leave daily at 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. on weekdays and at 9 a.m., noon, 2:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. on weekends.
