LOCAL: Watch tree climbing competition and try out “fun climb” 4/28/12 & 4/29/12

tree climbing competition
The Charlotte Arborists Association is holding the 2012 Tree Climbing Competition on Saturday, April 28th, 2012, and Sunday, April 29th, on the Princeton Avenue side of Freedom Park. Spectators can watch 39 competitors, both men and women, from all over the world demonstrate their climbing skills, using nothing but a rope and saddle. They will compete in five preliminary events on Saturday, from 9am to 4pm, with the top five competitors advancing to the finals on Sunday from 9am to 4pm. If watching isn’t enough for you, you’re invited to participate in a FREE fun climb (pictured above) on Saturday from 10am to 4pm. Although the fun climb is set up primarily for kids, people of all ages are welcome to participate. A system of ropes will be in the tree, and climbers will be fitted with harnesses so that they can climb in the tree. This looks like fun. I was a tomboy so I loved climbing tress (with no harness.) (Thanks Charlotte On The Cheap)
